Letter 620: Butterflies

There. I've finally pressed the "Submit" button. My application is flung into the infinite space of cyberworld. I don't want to see it. I don't know what I'm doing. Part of me wants to fish it back. Part of me wants to let it drift its way to The Institution, where thousands of applications from the country will converge and be sifted through for employment suitability according to a computer system that is allegedly "random but fair", whatever that means.

Deep down, I am trembling with fear and excitement. I don't know what I'm hoping to get out of this, because it involves relocating to a different town, a different city, yet again. It involves taking an enormous risk, engaging in a massive paycut, and being a slave to The System once more. But I don't want to think about it for now. The "Submit" button has been pressed, and there's no turning back.
